Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's expected for concerns to be asked about his position following another heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's worst run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received a lot of backing from the top,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win of course but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the trust. However I've not talked to them since this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented familiar weaknesses from his squad in their European loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a spell like this with results so bad.”
Jones finished, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until it is removed, we’re always going to battle.”
“We will attempt to get this team return to the top, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and it must improve.”
