EU Officials Decry US Action as ‘Intimidation’
European leaders such as the French president accused the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, following the travel bans were placed on individuals who have been central to campaigns to enact legislation governing American tech companies.
“For too long, European activists have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to coerce American platforms to suppress US perspectives they oppose,” wrote the US secretary of state in a social media post. “The current administration will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”

Nations including Germany, Spain, and the UK, alongside numerous EU representatives supported France in criticizing the decision.
The restrictions were enacted on Tuesday on an ex-European commissioner who helped draft the EU’s digital governance law, as well as four activists fighting false information, from two in Germany and two in the UK.
