New York Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.

“What reassures me, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he has been listed as in critical but steady condition.

“Don’t know just yet,” he added. “But I will say this, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. And again, that reassures me, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD issued surveillance images Monday of a man sought in the attack on the player. A motive for the shooting is still being looked into and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was singled out. No other injuries as confirmed by officials.

The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday about halfway between Madison Square Garden and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been in his thoughts “a ton” since learning of the incident. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a child.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn remarked. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd hasn’t played during the current season, his debut year with New York, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

He joined the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in March and was projected as a significant contributor of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a practice session on August 2 and was carted from the field.

Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while working his way back.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn commented. “Certainly, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, from Texas, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He later played for Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad later that season. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal valued at $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
