The network's Premier New Show of This Year Gets a Major Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

During the fall season, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often characterized by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about observing this charming family navigate their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to evolve comedy past its prevailing cynical streak. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially help usher in that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to bask in the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
