The Showrunner Discloses He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... At the Moment.

Vince Gilligan never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would become a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” Gilligan says. “I was surprised by the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the acclaimed program wrapping up—and the next chapter greenlit and underway—the creative team opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will impact the narrative path of Pluribus.

Regarding the Overwhelming Fan Response

It would be easy to get swayed by the constant speculation and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to ignore the noise.

“It feels like constantly eating your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's intentional. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever want to. Not because I don't care. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by audience chatter.”

“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Does Vince Gilligan See the Ending of Pluribus?

Considering Gilligan and his team are not listening by audience theories, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? In short yes… in a way.

“There are some potential directions about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a good idea for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, why not reference the iconic TV endings?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.
