This Special Release Pokémon Card Seeks to Curb the Influence On Speculators

Marking the arrival of the fascinating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, an exciting partnership has been formed. Pokémon's creators alongside London's Natural History Museum will launch a pop-up shop featuring special items. Enthusiasts can look forward to products like stationery, plushes, and artwork all drawing from the museum's theme. The big draw, though, is a specially made Pikachu card, given as a gift with purchase for the pop-up. This shop will operate from the physical location to its web counterpart from January 26 to April 19.

Pokécology That Inspires the Partnership

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a much-awaited tome filled with beautiful illustrations depicting Pokémon in their natural habitats. The concept like what a Pokémon Professor could produce once adventurers submit their data, alternatively what Charles Darwin could have sketched had the famous islands were populated by flying-types instead of birds. Part of the charm stems from the book's serious approach, presenting Pokémon as worthy of subject for study. Author Yoshinari Yonehara together with illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita both hold PhDs in ecology and behavioral science.

What Makes This Special Card Stand Out

The company regularly for The Pokémon Company to release cards for major tournaments and crossover partnerships. Many such promotional cards often feature the iconic electric rodent who serves as the franchise mascot. The factor setting this latest museum card however, is the unusually large dimensions. Although exact measurements have not been immediately shared, its distribution is guaranteed to be strictly limited, with fans limited to just one card per purchase.

Limiting Reseller Activity

Per a company announcement, some of the merchandise will also be sold beyond the museum walls. However, a wider release will only be specific stores in the United Kingdom. Critically, fans cannot acquire the card via the official web shop. While reseller interest is inevitable, it appears they're going to have a difficult time stockpiling large numbers this time around. If you're feeling left out, consider the upcoming fossil-themed display headed to Chicago later this year.

"Every penny of sales from the museum store and its web shop, including Pokémon products, go toward the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. This includes the research of 400 scientists dedicated to conducting studies to discover solutions to the planetary emergency," it says.
