Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
